Guide to Choosing and Uploading Photos of Your Artworks on Artsper

Updated this week

How do I select relevant artwork pictures?

Providing high-quality images is essential to allow users to appreciate your work in the best possible conditions. Pictures are crucial to selling art online.

On Artsper, artworks that sell usually have an average of 4 images on their listing. For this reason, 3 images are now required (except for editions and photographs). Collectors are more likely to purchase works with varied and high-quality visuals.

In the "Artwork images" section, you will need to upload several pictures. The main image is the most important.

1. Main picture

This is the first image collectors will see (on the homepage, in the catalog, or in search results).

For 2D works (paintings, photos, prints):

  • The main image must be a perfectly frontal view, cropped with no background, wall, frame, margins, or contours.

Tips for taking good pictures:

  • Use natural light and avoid flash.

  • Make sure the work is evenly lit, without shadows or reflections.

  • Take 10–15 shots per artwork to select the best one.

Uploading process:

  • Click on the “+” icon in the square to upload. Each time you add a photo, a new “+” will appear for the next one.

2. Additional pictures

Photos 2, 3, 4, 5… should show:

  • The work in context (on-site).

  • Details (texture, close-ups).

  • Signature and numbering.

  • The back of the work.

  • The artwork framed, if applicable.

Important requirements:

  • Use real-life photos only. Artsper automatically generates 3 photomontages for paintings, drawings, prints, and photographs.

  • Accepted formats: JPG / JPEG.

  • Max size: 10 MB and 5000 x 5000 px.

  • Minimum size: 600 px on at least one side. (Right-click on an image → “Get info” to check dimensions).

3. Before uploading your photos, check:

  • The dimensions entered in the form match the artwork as shown in the image (e.g., a rectangular work should not be cropped into a square).

  • The main image shows the artwork as it will be shipped:

    • If sold unframed → do not show it framed.

    • If selling one piece from a diptych → only show that piece, not the full diptych.

  • Only one artwork per listing. Create a new form for each new piece.

  • Do not advertise custom commissions.

  • For enhanced editions, upload a photo of the exact copy being sold (any variation will be refused).
