Artsper conditions
Import fees and customs duties are not included in the final total of your order. On Artsper you will pay the price of the artwork as well as the shipping costs. It will be mentioned in the first step of your shopping cart if your order will be subject to customs clearance.
Please note that Artsper is not able to calculate customs fees beforehand, as these are charged directly by the shipping company once the artwork has reached the destination country.
We can, however, confirm that they are calculated on the basis of the value of the artwork as declared by the gallery and the customs office in your country.
What is a customs duty?
The customs duty or tariff is a tax levied on goods to be imported as soon as they cross the border into the other country.
Customs duties are calculated according to the value of the shipment as declared on the packing slip, the insurance costs and a percentage of the transportation cost. Together, these elements represent the declared value for customs purposes. This value must then be multiplied by the rate of duty, based on the product code assigned to the goods by the shipper.
Will I have to pay customs fees?
When goods are not shipped domestically (within your country) or within a single customs union, such as the European Union, customs fees may apply.
You are responsible for any incoming duties and taxes that your local customs authority deems appropriate.
Who do I pay customs fees to?
Customs fees include applicable VAT as well as a carrier-specific handling fee. These fees are in addition to the price and shipping charges that are billed to you at checkout. Applicable duties and taxes are calculated at the border and are based on the nature of the item, the final price of the item and the destination country. Upon entry into the destination country, the carrier will advance the recipient the customs fees.
The carrier (e.g. UPS, Fedex, TNT, etc.) takes care of the customs formalities: declaration of the package and payment of duties and taxes, if any.
Other personal information may be required for customs processing, such as your identity number or EORI number if the purchase is made by a company.
Once cleared, your package will be delivered to you by the same carrier, who will invoice you for any duties and taxes they have advanced on your behalf with customs, as well as any fees associated with their service.
The buyer is responsible for customs fees and refusal to pay is not a reason for return.
Artsper is not able to reimburse you for local import taxes or duties, as these are the responsibility of the importer.
Please note that any purchase shipped internationally may be subject to other export, import and customs duties or international taxes. These charges are the responsibility of the buyer and will be billed directly by the carrier.
